  1. How long does VHS last?
Reputable experts seem to agree that consumer-grade VHS tape, if looked after, will not start to degrade until its about 20-25 years old. Read more in This Article

  2. What is your turnaround for VHS to DVD transfers?
This all depends on the complexity of the project; But we will always give you an ETA when we take on your job. As an example, a basic VHS-DVD transfer should be with you within a few days; whereas a more difficult edit or restoration project might take 2-3 weeks.

  3. Can I make copies of CDs or DVDs for my own use?
Only if you own the copyright. The law says that only the copyright owner is allowed to make copies, dispelling the commonly-held belief that you can, for example, copy a commercial CD onto cassette to listen to in the car. Lawyers think you are unlikely to be prosecuted for this, however.

  4. What is Intelledit?
Intelledit is a Digiwiz propriety process. Short for 'Intelligent Edit', it means we edit out obviously unwanted footage such as blue screens, shots of the floor etc

  5. How good is the quality of video transferred from VHS to DVD?
Unless it is restored and enhanced, the sound and picture quality of the DVD will be almost exactly the same as the source VHS. Of course, you will have the advantages of longevity and easier search on your new media.

  6. What is the difference between duplication & replication?
The simple answer is that you duplicate a disc when you burn it at home; Whereas a factory replicates discs - Duplication is the process of "burning" data onto a recordable CD or DVD with a laser; This is often the preferred method of producing discs in runs of less than 1000 as the turnaround time is quicker, and the project may be more cost-effective. Replication is a manufacturing process which involves 1. Creating a glass master from the original disc. 2. Making a nickel stamper from that glass master. 3. Injection-moulding of clear discs from that stamper, and, 4. Metallizing & laquering those discs to make the final CD or DVD. This method of disc production is usually more effective for greater numbers of discs, ie. over 1000.

  7. Why use Digiwiz for transfers when there are cheaper services available?
There are a lot of companies out there charging less than we do. After all, its easy to buy a cheap vhs-dvd deck and start a website. We believe in offering a better quality service, and even our basic transfers are done using broadcast-quality equipment. Plus, you are assured that your family videos are safe with us, as our team all hold an Advanced Disclosure Certificate (police check)

  8. Is there anything you won't transfer?
We won't transfer copyrighted materials (unless you're the copyright owner), and we won't transfer 'adult' material.

  9. What is Chroma Key?
Chroma Key, otherwise known as bluescreen or greenscreen, is a video and film technique for blending two images together by making either the blue or green background transparent so that another image can be seen behind it. This special effect is most commonly seen in tv weather reports: The presenter will be fimed in front of a large blue or green screen, which will then be replaced with a graphic of the weather map. At digiwiz, we have our own mobile green screen which we use mostly when filming web video for our clients. By the way, blue or green screens are used because there aren't a lot of blue or green tones in human skin; In fact, any colour backdrop could be used.
